How do I blow dry my hair straight?

My hair is kind of wavy-curly and if I let it air dry it kind of is a mess. When I blow dry it, though, it poofs, because I don't have the proper technique with the round brush, and I'm frankly not sure whether I should be using a round brush or a paddle brush. Either way, I have trouble handling the blow dryer, the brush, and adjusting my hair on the brush. Videos, tips, etc. would be appreciated!
