Was driving my 1998 Chevy S10 pickup(stick) going about 55 and rpms SHOT up to 7000(redlined)?

I cut off the engine right away until it came to a stop...I started it agter it stopped and right away it redlined w/out my foot on the gas...I mean redlined 7000 rpm as high as it goes...Any ideas?
